  • Scottish Art
Lord Crawford was a leading covenanter, but one who hoped to moderate the policies of King Charles I. He carried the sceptre at King Charles II's Scottish Coronation in 1650 and, after the King's flight to Holland, was taken prisoner to London the following year. Lord Crawford holds the wand of the Lord High Treasurer of Scotland, the office to which he was appointed in 1661. As Crawford refused to reject the Covenant he resigned his position two years later.
