This is an outstanding example of Parker?s detailed technique and skill as a wood engraver. Cutting fine, cross-hatched lines into a wooden block, she captures the softness of the fur, the moisture in the eyes, and also the weight and volume of the cat?s body. With claws out, the cat appears ready to spring at a moment?s notice. Although most of Parker?s prints from this period were produced as book illustrations, this work was an independent print.
