Scottish Miners
1982
- Scottish Art
This photograph depicts a miner in his home environment. It is a snapshot of his interests and his personal life away from his job. Rogovin travelled to Scotland in 1982 to capture images of Scottish miners as part of his series `The Family of Miners?. In this he documented the miners at work and contrasted this to images of them in their social setting. The result is a more complete portrait of the miners and an insight into their life beyond the dark, claustrophobic mine where they spend most of their working life. This is a captivating portrait with bold imagery. The figure competes for the viewer?s attention with the garish curtains and the large poster of a man on a motorbike.
