Kussowlie Brewery
about 1860
This photograph may have been taken either by an amateur connected with the brewery or by a professional who specialised in photographing the development of local industries in northern India. The pile of empty bottles on the right topped by the sign JOHNSON'S ENTIRE XXX, are evidence of the pride taken in this venture. We are reminded of the eighteenth-century beginnings of the Industrial Revolution in Britain when small factories and mills emerged in the countryside, before the rise of the great industrial cities.
