Walter Nimmo is a Scottish genius in every sense of the word. He was a distinguished professor of anaesthetics at Sheffield University, before moving back to Edinburgh in 1988 to set up Inveresk Clinical Research, a business which became a market leader in clinical research and drug testing. It was snapped up by a Swiss company, then bought back by Walter and his management colleagues, before being listed in the United States. This success attracted Charles River Laboratories by whom it was bought in October 2004 for nearly $1.5 billion. Walter is a renowned pianist and a board member of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. This portrait was commissioned as part of a series celebrating Scotland’s entrepreneurial talent.
