This painting was created by an accumulation of layers of oil, acrylic ink, pastel and lacquer. It is reminiscent of oriental paintings and, in particular, the Japanese art of lacquering. Todd is influenced by the concept of form and void in Chinese and Japanese painting, where the space between forms is of equal importance as the forms themselves. The rich red colour is intended to spark the imagination and individual interpretation. The painting's title is derived from the name of the science fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft.
