Two Women and a Boy (study for 'The Covenanters Preaching')
about 1830
- Scottish Art
This is a study for the painting 'The Covenanters' Preaching' (Glasgow Museum and Art Gallery) which was exhibited in 1830. Harvey was particularly interested in the religious history of the seventeenth-century Covenanters. Other subjects included 'The Covenanters' Baptism' (Aberdeen Art Gallery), 'The Battle of Drumclog' (Glasgow Museum and Art Gallery) and 'Covenanters' Communion' (NG 608). He treated these historical subjects as genre scenes, putting emphasis on facial character and expression, studied, as here, from posed models.
