Two Views of Inge 1961
  • Scottish Art
Alasdair Gray married Inge Sorenson on 3 November 1961. Portraiture is a common theme in Gray’s work and he habitually draws those around him. Inge featured in his work many times during their marriage, which ended in 1970. This drawing shows Inge both in profile and front on. These are inquisitive sketches of a man exploring the features of his new wife. He has blocked out the background, creating a bolder image and drawing attention to her profile.
