Anya Gallaccio (Scottish, born 1963)
Anya Gallaccio?s work concerns transformation and decay. Her installations have included a giant block of ice melting, a huge candle slowly burning away in a public square and a web of flowers stretched across a room, slowly decomposing. More recently Gallaccio has begun to use traditional sculptural materials alongside organic ones, such as an apple tree cast in bronze on which real apples are hung to rot over the course of its display. Gallaccio was born in Glasgow and studied at Goldsmiths College, London. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2003.
