This lithographic print relates to Ed Ruscha’s first, groundbreaking photography book of the same name published in 1963. It was a 48 page publication documenting 26 roadside filling stations along Route 66 between Los Angeles and Ruscha’s home town of Oklahoma City, including stations in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Amarillo. Ruscha said, ‘I used to drive back four or five times a year and I began to feel that there was so much wasteland between LA and Oklahoma that somebody had to bring the news to the city.’
