The Tiger. H.H. Guests and beaters about 1926
  • Scottish Art
British guests of the Maharajah of Alwar received lavish hospitality during a visit to Central India in 1926. Hunts were laid on in their honour involving troops of servants working as beaters to flush out the wild cats. The dead tiger in the foreground is a particularly large specimen, but none of the Westerners in the front row seem to claim it as their trophy. Elsewhere in the album to which this image belongs, the triumphant photographer is shown with a foot over the lifeless body of 'his own' tiger.
