Dated 1664, this picture is described by the biographer of Bolognese artists, Carlo Cesare Malvasia, as having been painted for an unnamed Florentine `Cavaliere? the year before Elisabetta?s death. The work was acquired for the Edinburgh Royal Institution from the Gerini collection in Florence in 1831.
