- Artist Rooms
Throughout his career Sander photographed individuals and groups of people in his native Germany, classifying them according to their occupations and positions in society. This lifelong attempt to document the German people resulted in the ambitious project entitled `People of the 20th Century?. Raoul Hausmann was a member of the Berlin Dada group in the years after World War One, writing many key texts and editing the journal `Der Dada?. He also co-organised many Dada events, such as the First International Dada Fair in 1920. In his Dada activities, Hausmann purposely blurred the boundaries between the arts, including photography and dance. Here he is using Sander?s photograph to explore bodily expression.
