Philippe Parreno (French, born 1964)
Internationally acclaimed French artist Parreno works in a variety of media, from `traditional? drawing and sculpture, to more contemporary modes of expression such as performance and video. His work often includes, and evolves from, interesting and unusual collaborations with a variety of artists, filmmakers, scientists and curators. Primarily centring on the interrogation of the nature of an image, Parreno frequently re-uses existing material before manipulating it and incorporating his own ideas in an attempt to re-establish perceptions of reality. Parreno was born in Oran, Algeria, before studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Grenoble from 1983-8. He lives and works in Paris. Alongside his career as an artist he regularly writes for magazines.
