Probably painted by a follower of Gerard David, this Pieta could possibly have been painted by a Hispano-Flemish master. The composition is certainly related to David and his circle, as it derives from another painting of the same subject attributed to David, as well as a Virgin and Child by David?s follower Adriaen Isenbrandt.
