Thanks to the efforts of the picture dealers Daniel Cottier and Alexander Reid, Monticelli?s paintings were particularly popular with Scottish collectors from the 1880s onwards. This picture was painted around 1867-9 and was in the collection of Alexander Young, a London collector who frequently bought from Glasgow dealers.
