Untitled
? The Artist and the Paragon Press

Reference URL

Untitled 1997
Juxtaposition of unrelated elements is a theme common in Hapaska?s work. This print shows the American operatic soprano Maria Callas, floating imperiously above a mass of American air-force planes, grouped together as if in a graveyard. The inclusion of the planes also echoes the artist?s interest in travel. She explains, `I believe people are always travelling somewhere, even if it?s only aspirational.? This work is from a portfolio of prints by eleven different London-based artists, called `Screen?. The title is taken from the screenprint technique but also refers to the fact that most of the artists had worked with film or photography.
