Dan Graham (American, born 1942)
Artist and writer Dan Graham was born in Illinois and lives and works in New York. He ran the Daniels Gallery, New York from 1964 to 1965, where he came into contact with minimalist artists such as Dan Flavin and Sol LeWitt. Graham began producing art in the late 1960s, after becoming disillusioned with the commercial gallery system. His first works appeared in magazines and were designed to look out of place; for example, he once inserted a picture of a badly-printed supermarket receipt in 'Harper's Bazaar'. Graham's work also includes performance, video and installations of mirrored rooms.
