Iain Faulkner (Scottish, born 1973)
Born in Glasgow, Faulkner studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1996. His oeuvre is focused on figurative compositions, in which the main male character often physically resembles the artist himself. However, they are not self-portraits - instead Faulkner sees the character as his doppelganger recast in various scenes. His paintings are frequently contemplative with a discernible narrative. The characters rarely make eye contact with the viewer which adds a further element of reflection, often heightened by the artist?s use of mirrored surfaces.
