Untitled
1936
This drawing is related to Dali?s painting `Autumn Cannibalism?. The figures are closely entwined, but instead of eating each other as in the painting, the larger figure is feeding the smaller figure; perhaps representing a mother and her child. It is also connected to a number of drawings and prints of skeletal forms which Dali made from about 1933, including the series of prints he produced for an illustrated revision of Comte de Lautreamont?s poetic novel, `Les Chants de Maldoror?, in 1934. This drawing was made for one of four surrealist albums, which comprised fifteen original drawings by various artists. They were sold at the 1936 `International Surrealist Exhibition? in London with the aim to help fund future surrealist publications.
