Jean-Victor Bertin (French, 1767 - 1842)
Born in France Bertin was a painter and lithographer. He studied at the Académie Royale de Peinture from 1785 and exhibited in the Paris Salon from 1793 until his death. Bertin painted portraits and landscapes in an idealised classical style, although his work became increasingly naturalistic from 1830. This had a great influence on Bertin's pupils, the most notable of whom was Corot.
