This poster is one of five hundred produced to commemorate the Fifth New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, New York. It is based on the ticket of the same design by Warhol which was published by the Leo Castelli Gallery, New York. Its vibrant colours and flower pattern were screenprinted before the black text was added. Following his `retirement? from painting in 1965 Warhol spent most of his time making films explain his interest in the film festival.

A print made by forcing ink through a screen on which a stencil is placed. Traditionally used for commercial printing, it has been taken up by artists since the 1960s when it was used extensively in Pop art.
