Siobhán Hapaska (Northern Irish, born 1963)
Siobhan Hapaska is best known for her sculptures, which range from hyper-realist to enigmatically abstract. She often combines these dramatically different elements in her work. In the sculpture `The Inquisitor?, for example, a life-like robed wax figure holds a Modernist-designed speaker which emits a monologue in English and Latin, combining the Middle Ages with the Twentieth Century. A recurring theme in Hapaska?s work is travel, both physical and mental. Associated with this is an interest in time, place and history. Hapaska was born in Belfast and studied at Goldsmiths College in London.
