The total cost of Portrait of the Nation – renovating the building and re-presenting our collections – is £17.6 million.

We have received generous support from the Scottish Government (£5.1 million) and the Heritage Lottery Fund (£4.8 million). We are launching a fundraising campaign to raise the balance, appealing to trusts, foundations, companies and individuals to support us. To date, over £1 million has been raised from these sources.

We are inspired by the vision and generosity of John Ritchie Findlay, our founder. We hope that his exceptional act – gifting this building to the people of Scotland – will inspire today’s potential donors to help us renew the Portrait Gallery, ensuring its future at the heart of the nation for another 120 years.
