The National Galleries of Scotland employ more than 300 staff in a variety of roles. Visitors may be most familiar with those working in warding or retail. There are however many other positions such as curators, art handlers and IT and marketing professionals. All employees of the Galleries, regardless of their area of expertise play an important part in ensuring the smooth running of the organisation and help us to maintain our reputation as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions.

Curatorial Internee (Fixed-Term - 1 Year)

SCOTTISH NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ART / DEAN GALLERY
FIXED-TERM – 1 YEAR
Salary: up to £17,319, depending on experience

In collaboration with the Scottish Arts Council, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring Curator to assist with the delivery of the ARTIST ROOMS project and other SNGMA (Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art) projects, including a proposed new artist residency scheme. The Internee will also have the opportunity to work on cataloguing of the gallery’s permanent collection, as well as assist in the realisation and delivery of displays from the SNGMA permanent collection. This post is based at the Dean Gallery on Belford Road, Edinburgh.

A degree (or equivalent) in art/art history with experience of working within a gallery or museum environment is a must, as is a strong interest in and knowledge of 20th Century and Contemporary Art. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are also essential.
